Cocky HTC promises strong growth - Mobile

Taiwanese HTC has had a tough time recently. Some years ago, the manufacturer had a double-digit share of the global market for smartphones. By 2012 the proportion had however shrunk to 4 percent. In spring 2013, the company has also been hit by heavy defections when several top managers have opted to leave HTC.

CEO Peter Chou now wants to reassure its shareholders. On Friday last week, he went therefore out with the company focusing strongly on growth in the future.

– We managed to maintain one four percent market share in the global smartphone market last year, and we are determined to increase the market share of up to ten to fifteen percent in the future, said Peter Chou to the company’s shareholders.

According to Chou, HTC has invested a lot of money on development to build “innovative new smartphones.” HTC’s latest top model HTC One has been strongly criticized for its Ultra Pixel camera, while the other functions of the phone, such as the skrollbara home screen Wink Feed and Boom Sound (dual front-mounted stereo speakers), have become very popular.

Androidkampen: Galaxy S4 against HTC One - Swedish Dagbladet

Samsung has long had a good flow in the market and is currently the market leader position. Galaxy S4 is the sequel to its successful Galaxy S3, which in turn followed on from the successful Galaxy S2. The one with a keen eye probably look a certain pattern here, and it need hardly be mentioned that there is also an origin Galaxy

components and software inside has changed, but the origin of philosophy is basically the same – the aim is to build a phone with the sharpest components available and with time, the Company supplemented with additional features such as gesture and eye control.

On paper, the Galaxy S4 and HTC One two very similar phones. They are based on the same powerful quad-core processor and has the same connectivity, but labeled it clear that there are two phones built by companies with radically different conditions.

while Samsung has emerged strongly in the market, HTC has gone reversals in the sales statistics. One is the phone that will reverse the trend.

If you put the two phones side by side, it becomes clear that it is not entirely wrong to have the gun sometimes.

Galaxy S4 basically looks like the Galaxy S3, it requires a trained eye to distinguish the new model. HTC One does not look right like any other phone on the market. When you take both phones in hand, the difference is even more pronounced.

Samsung drive on the plastic as main material, and even if the structure is stable, it is class difference compared with the shapely aluminum construction HTC One. The Taiwanese phone is better in the hand and feels much more lavish.

In terms of components, the two phones are thus quite similar. Software-wise, it’s mostly a philosophical question which you prefer – both have their strengths and weaknesses. After the latest update, HTC’s software layer on top of Android, Sense, aesthetically pleasing, and new features like Blink Feed – bringing together social media and other sources into a single flow – are pretty slim.

Samsung continue driving on their Touchwiz, but have added a lot more effort into new features such as gesture and eye control. The phone pauses Youtube video when you look away, or automatically scrolls when you reached the end of a page fails, however, better in theory than it works in practice. In reality, it is more a gimmick with development than anything useful.

camera of the HTC One is another example of the Taiwanese manufacturer was pressured to try something new. Where the Galaxy S4 and most competitors boasting 13 million pixels, the HTC One only four million. Instead they have focused on larger pixels and let the marketing department rename them to ultra pixels. The idea is that larger pixel area will collect more light. In poor lighting gives it utelning, which is HTC One hard to beat – but when you zoom in or viewing on a larger screen, it is clear that the detail is not as good as the competition.

nutshell, both Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One very good mobile phones. Galaxy S4 is a bit boring election, with its plastic version. But it also takes home the award as the little safer choice as One lacks both removable battery and memory card slot.

But if you look up one more notch and look at the market as a whole, it is clear that it is the incremental improvement ‘time in the mobile world – it is evolution, not revolution that apply. The tempo is so high that it is easy to be blinded by speed.

Compared with an almost two year old Galaxy Nexus so, today’s higher resolution screens, processors, more cores and higher clock speed and the cameras have gotten better.

But little change has actually taken place. Something major development leap was taken. Manufacturers can say what they want about eye tracking, ultra pixels or water protection. Development is proceeding rapidly, but the trend is the same time and stomps on the same site.

For my part, get the next development leap happily come to the battery area. It’s really the only thing I miss with my old monochrome Nokia phone – a severely Snake-dependent despite so did it himself several days on a single charge.

Detailed info – so do they differ:

Ex-HTC execs can not quit smartphone game, create startups Kazam - CNET

Kazam is a smartphone manufacturer focused on design, customer service, and the European market. But the company faces an extreme uphill climb.

Roger Cheng
 June 17, 2013 4:01 PM PDT

Two forms HTC Executives are hoping for a fresh start withtheir own company.

Michael Coombes, shapes, head of sales at HTC, and James Atkins, shapes UK marketing head for the company, said on Monday That They are launching smartphone manufacturer Kazam. The two executives are promising smartphones That are about “stunning design, sturdy hardware, and intuitive technology, underpinned with improved customer service. Kazam will focus on the European market.

  • Coombes will serve as CEO, while Atkins will ask the chief marketing officer. The two executives left HTC in March, part of an exodus of Several Key Executives leaving as the company struggles with its turnaround.

“There is a real opportunity for a new mobile fire to disrupt the status quo,” Atkins said. “We are passionate about delivering a truly positive mobile experiencethat does not just stop once you’ve bought the phone.”

The company, of course, faces tremendous hurdles, and could very well go from Kazam to Kablooey in short fashion. After all, if a company with the resources of HTC Continues to struggle with the handset business, how much of a chance does a startup have?

Kazam, Which will focus on the European market, believes it can differentiate itself by offering phones That it will continue to support after-they’re Quantity. Considering That smartphones routinely get software updates, the company will likely offer more support than new versions of the software. The bare-bones statement did providesprofessional any concrete details on the products themeselves, Noting That only a line of smartphones will launch later this year. Presumably, the company would use Android as well.

“Kazam’s dynamic structure and focus on local markets means we can react quickly to the ever-evolving and diverging needs of today’s consumer,” Coombes said.

But in a market where money, scale, distribution, and fire talks, Kazam is at a distinct disadvantage. It lacks all of Those things When stacked up against the two executives’ shapes employer, not to mention giants Such as Apple and Samsung Electronics.

Also, in many markets where the carrier plays a dominant role in what the consumer ultimately buys, getting an in with the big companies will be a huge challenge. Fortunately, unlocked phones are more popular in Europe, so there’s a potential market for customers who want something different.

But with companies Such as HTC, Sony, LG and fighting for the scraps leftover from Samsung and Apple, there Appears to be little leftover for Kazam. Even Relatively large companies Such as Huawei and ZTE have struggled to get into mature markets despite vast resources.

We’ll have to hear more about Kazam and its phone first before making a final call, but for now, the startup is raising a lot of questions about its business with the announcement.

As teased a few months back and joining the now-official Desire 600, the smartphone pulls together a 320 x 480 3.5-inch screen, 1GHz processor and Android 4.0. It sounds a whole lot like the UK-bound Vodafone Smart Mini, Which has been priced at just £ 50 on pay-as-you-go. HTC Desire 200 leaks before launch - GSMArena.com

It seems HTC will Shortly be updating its portfolio with yet another Android device, as can be seen from the pictures below. What we have here is the HTC Desire 200 and by the looks of it it will be a budget device.

The HTC Desire 200 looks quite familiar. On the front, it has the earpiece section That is inspired from the HTC One and the controls below look like any other Recent HTC Android device. On the back, it looks almost identical to some of the previous HTC phones, Such as the Desire C.

Inside, there is a 3.5-inch, 320 x 480 resolution LCD, 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage space with microSD card slot and a 1,400 mAh battery. The device seen above was found running on Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich but it’s unlikely That the final device would be running on anything older than Android 4.1.

No word on pricing and launch date so far.

Android this week: Galaxy S4 Zoom; New Nexus 7 tested; HTC One Mini pegged ... - GigaOM

    11 mins ago June 15, 2013 – 9:18 PM PDT

Samsung was the first to create a “phablet” and it looks like it’s overpriced the first to create a “phomera”. OK, my silly name does really exist, but the device I’m Referring to actually does.

On Wednesday, Samsung Introduced the Galaxy Zoom: an Android smartphone That includes a 10x optical camera zoom (24-240mm, f/3.1 to F/6.3). Essentially the rear part of the phone looks like a traditional handset Galaxy. Turn the device around and it looks more like a point-and-shoot camera. Supplementing the zoom lens is a 16 megapixel sensor and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to reduce camera shake. Samsung overpriced added a Zoom ring to quickly access the camera functions: In-Call Photo Share, camera mode choice and other controls.

    GALAXY S4 Zoom

Of course, since this is a phone, it has the expected connectivity choices: GSM, HSPA +, and LTE. The device runs Android 4.2 on a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor. Samsung doing now? Offered specifics on the exact chip, nor does it mention how much RAM is in the Zoom. That rear display on the camera – or is the front display of the phone? – Is a 4.3-inch qHD screen resolution: 960 x 540.

From what I can tell, this isn’ta going to be a high-end smartphone with better camera optics but Should appeal to photo fanatics That want a solid Android experience. I’m curious how the added camera optics will Affect holding the device on a phonecall, however.

In tablet news, more details surfaced on the next-generation Nexus 7. This week, FCC testing documents were found for a Nexus-branded, Asus built 7-inch slate. The device (or devices, as there are different models) will have Wi-Fi and LTE options and use a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip in lieu of Nvidia’s silicon That powers the current Nexus 7. The biggest detail missing so far is: what resolution will the new tablet have? My hope is for two options: a lower-cost 1280 x 800 unit and a premium-priced 1080p version.

HTC One silver featured And HTC looks sure to follow Samsung’s lead in making a mini version of its flagship smartphone. Bloomberg reported this week That the HTC One Mini will launch this August. The “mini” refers to the smaller design and display: Expect a 4.3-inch screen with 720p resolution; That compares to the HTC One’s 4.7-inch, 1080p display.

Engadget has reported a picture of the new Mini next to the Existing HTC One, showing similar design cues. That’s a smart move by HTC, given its current flagship That is Regarded by many, including me, to be the best built and designed Android smartphone available today. You’ll likely give up some performance if you opt for the smaller version though: a dual-core chip and possibly a lower resolution camera. For some, a more manageable size could trump Those feature Reductions.

Minecraft creator Markus 'Notch' Persson on the HTC Desire Z and CPU speed demons

Every week, a new and interesting human being tackles our decidedly geeky take on the Proustian Q & A. This is the Engadget Questionnaire.

In a brand new installment of our weekly smattering of questions, Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson offers his take on high-precision nerdery and the evolution of nature’s most intuitive interface. To peruse all of the responses, join us just beyond the break.

Minecraft creator Markus 'Notch' Persson on the HTC Desire Z and CPU speed demons What gadget do you Depend on most?
I can not get myself to give up on my HTC Desire Z. It’s a quite dated Android cell phone by now, but the physical keyboard is perfect for tweeting, and it takes horribly blurry pictures.

Which do you look back upon most fondly?
The Game Boy Advance, definitely. Great selection of games, horrible unlit screen and interesting form factor.

Which company does the most to push the industry?
Right now, I’m most excited about the Oculus Rift by Oculus VR, Inc. High-precision nerdery driven by a strong That passion rubs off on anyone That touches it.

What is your operating system of choice?
The one I use the most is Windows 7, but for laptops, nothing beats the way OS X handles touchpad input and gestures.

What are your favorite gadget names?
I’m quite fond of anything obviously named by an engineer. The more Greek letters and references to old mythology, the better.

    What are your least favorite?
Anything in the format “The AdjectiveNoun ™.”

Which app do you Depend on most?
Twitter or Spotify, depending on if I’m currently procrastinating or not.

What traits do you most deplore in a smartphone?
Non-USB cable chargers. I finally got over my hatred of non-replaceable batteries. Phones tend to get outdated by the time you need to replace the battery anyway.

    Which do you most admire?
Physical keyboards, Although they’re definitely think These Days.

What is your idea of ??the perfect device?
Hands. No tools have ever gotten close to being as intuitive or versatile as what nature has evolved for us.

“I’m quite fond of anything obviously named by an engineer. The more Greek letters and references to old mythology, the better.”

What is your earliest memory gadget?
I remember disassembling and putting an old analog alarm clock together. It was a lot of fun figuring out why it still worked with That One spring missing.

What technological advancement do you most admire?
The speed at Which modern CPUs perform computations still blows my mind daily. The way this Allows us to really apply math to solve a wide range of problems, or just change the intensity of millions of LED lights 60 [times] per second just to entertain us, is mind-blowing.

    Which do you most despise?
Anything designed to hurt other people, Such as weapons or YouTube comments. Other than that, I find it hard to despise tools. Some are less useful, but I do not despise them.

What fault are you most tolerant of in a gadget?
Bad documentation. I like exploring gadgets myself, and find it exciting When The documentation is wrong.

Which are you most intolerant of?
Bad pixels, or other “tolerable” flaws That really Should not Be.

When has your smartphone been of the most help?
Google Maps to find out where I am and where I’m supposed to go. The fact That the GPS eats battery just adds to the excitement.

What device do you covet most?
I already have it, but a good keyboard is invaluable When You spent a lot of time typing. My favorite one is the ancient IBM Model MI have at home.

If you could change one thing about your phone what would it be?
I would make the battery last longer than half a day of heavy use.

What does being connectedness mean to you?
    Access to the internet.

When are you least likely to reply to an email?
Any emailthat contains the words “important” or “urgent” never are, and annoy me to the point of not replying out of principle.

    When did you load disconnect?
Many years ago: I do not even remember. I’ve tried a few times, but never last longer than a day or two.

HTC Loses Another Senior Exec As COO Steps Down - But May's Phone Sales ... - Eu.techcrunch

Troubled Taiwanese mobile maker HTC, Which has seen its profits plummet as it struggles to compete in an Android mobile space dominated by its Galaxy-spewing rival Samsung, is losing (yet) another senior executive. Bloomberg reports That the Chief Operating Officer Matthew Costello will step down after lessthanthree years at the company. Costello joined HTC in December 2010, According To his LinkedIn profile.

Bloomberg reports That Fred Liu, Currently HTC’s president of engineering and operations, will “take on Costello’s responsibilities in an expanded role covering operations, quality, sales operations and services”. The details were in an email to employees obtained by the news agency, Which overpriced notes That despite stepping down as COO Costello will stay on as an executive adviser after moving to Europe. We’ve REACHED out to HTC for comment and will update this story with any response.

Costello’s departure is the latest in a string of senior exec loses at HTC, including its Senior Vice President of Global Marketing Greg Fisher, Chief Product Office Kouji Kodera, Global Communications VP Jason Gordon, Global Retail Marketing Manager Rebecca Rowland, digital marketing chief John Starkweather and Eric Lin, manager of product strategy – all within the past three months. Last November the company overpriced Announced the appointment of a new Chief Marketing Officer, Benjamin Ho, to replace John Wang from January, with the aim of turning the marketing noise up on HTC’s innovation.

The company’s prior ‘quietly brilliant’ marketing messaging has fizzled against the onslaught of Samsung’s well-oiled and funded marketing machinery – Which is pretty much the opposite of quiet. So it barely seemed to matter That HTC made a cracking Android flagship in the HTC One, arguably the best Android flagship on the market, Because selling smartphones has’ve become a game of who can shout the Loudest for the longest. A game of brash tones, if you will.

But there’s one bright spot amid all this gloom for HTC. The company has just posted a monthly Revenues for May showing a 48.03% surge in sales – its best uplift all year (it has, however, been a terrible year for HTC). It’s still 3:35% down year-on-year but considering April’s Revenues were down 36.87% that’s a Substantial improvement. May’s Revenues were NT $ 29 billion ($ 970 million).

    HTC revenue

Whether HTC can claw back from the brink with one star phone in its portfolio is, however, debatable. Its Facebook Home gamble, with the HTC First, looks to have backfired, as That device has been drawn with pre-sale in Europe and its position in the U.S. looks perilous. Meanwhile Samsung keeps on firing forth iteration of its Galaxy flag ships Aimed at Saturating the market with differed sized and priced versions of its hardware, leaving even less wiggle room for HTC.

Still, another quietly positive note for HTC Is that Google looks to be stepping in to try to help out a little, by offering a Google Edition of the HTC One for sale on its Play Store. After all, an Android ecosystem dominated by Samsung is not without problems for Mountain View – for Android ecosystem health / biodiversity reasons – but overpriced Because of the danger That Samsung starts to hold too many of its cards. Whatever Google’s motives, HTC could certainly do with a few friends in high places right now.

HTC Corp, (TAIEX: 2498) produces smartphones running the Android and Windows Phone 7 operating systems for themeselves and as an OEM to other manufacturers. Since launching its own brand in late 2006, the company has Introduced dozens of HTC-branded products around the world. The company recently Introduced the HTC diamond to compete with Apple’s iPhone. Founded in 1997 by Cher Wang, Chairwoman, and HT Cho – shapes CEO who is a chairman now, HTC made its name as …

Summary: There has been a lot of speculation about a Verizon version of the HTC One and Verizon today confirmed it is indeed coming and May even be branded as an HTC One.

Launch of Verizon HTC One confirmed for later this summer (Image: HTC)

I have written a number of articles on the fantastic HTC One and it gets better weekly with Google and HTC updates. Great news today for folks on Verizon as Verizon Wireless confirmed on Facebook That the HTC One will be available later this summer. In a great move for HTC, it sounds like it might even launch as an HTC One rather than something like an HTC Droid Incredible One 4G LTE.

We do not have any more specific information on this model of HTC One coming to Verizon and Whether or not we will see it in 32GB and 64GB variants. Given the late summer release, I hope it launches with the 4.2.2 update That includes other tweaks and fixes as well.

You will not be able to buy a Verizon HTC One without Sense since the Sense-less version is only being sold on the Google Play Store as an unlocked GSM model. As I Stated before, the HTC One is a better device with Sense anyway so I do not Consider this a problem and you Should not either.

HTC showed off the Nexus version of One - Mobile

There were many who were surprised when Samsung suddenly announced a Google variant of the Galaxy S4 in developing fair Google I / O, which was held a few weeks ago.
Shortly after it began to circulate rumors that rival Androidtillverkaren HTC also planned to release a Google Customized version of its latest top model, the HTC One.
When Google’s Sundar Pichai attended the D11 – a conference of the American site AllThingsD – it became clear that the new One version actually existed.

    Easy to unlock bootloader

The new unit – which initially will only be available in the U.S. – have been provided with pure version of Android, and thus lacks many of the features (including Blink Feed and Zoe) as the interface Sense has endowed the first HTC One model with.

    HTC One Google Edition 2

Aside from the software, the hardware of the new HTC One identical to the version of the phone that HTC released earlier this spring. This includes Beats Audio function will be available even in this version of the phone. Nexus variant of HTC One has a storage memory of 32 gigabytes and is equipped with LTE/4G.

phone should have a price of 599 dollars, which is equivalent to about 3,900 Swedish kronor. The device is released for sale via Google Play on June 26, which is the same day that even Google version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 is released.
