HTC abandons Qualcomm in favor of Ericsson chip? - Evertiq.se

Phone manufacturer HTC may be about to leave Qualcomm chip, in order to make their smartphones cheaper.

HTC looking to broaden its supply of chips to drive down the cost of its intermediate segment of smartphones. So far, the company has relied on Qualcomm as a supplier, but by four phones posted this week, only one operated by Qualcomm, writes Focus Taiwan.

Instead, HTC will rely on solutions from Ercisson, Broadcom and Spreadtrum. Desire 501 shall contain a processor model ST-Ericsson U8520 dual-core 1.15GHz. Focus Taiwan also writes that similar changes may be relevant also in more high-profile phones.
