HTC Sweden in Söderköping has been sold to Danish-Swedish venture capital firm Polaris Equity, which manages € 653 million in two investment funds.
– Back in 2006 when I took the 3i Group as a partner, I decided to run for five years, until 2011, but it was a little longer, says founder Håkan Thysell, 58, to NT.
HTC, which stands for Hakan Construction, founded in 1987 and has over the years become a world leader in floor treatment via methods invented and patented by Hakan Thysell.

Hakan Thysell and his wife, Gunn Thysell, has been the majority shareholder in the company, with a stake of 60 percent. In 2006, the British private equity firm 3i Group a shareholder with a stake of 36.5 percent. The remaining 3.5 percent of the company – which in 2012 had sales of 370 million and an operating profit of 58.5 million – has been owned by some private persons associated with the company.
But now Polaris took over the whole thing – and Hakan Thysell know its new owners well:
– I have met them several times over the years. They belong to a group of companies who were interested in us, says Håkan Thysell as on April 1 turned 58 years old and who feel that it is time to do something else. The last 25 years he has devoted his life’s work, which has become internationally successful and employs over 160 employees. HTC Sweden has sales offices in USA, France, England and Germany.
When asked if he still intends to work within the company in any way, he says:
– We discuss it. We’ll see.

– They are so impressed by our strong brand, says Håkan Thysell who also expect the company to remain and develop even more in Söderköping.

Polaris invests in businesses with a turnover of 25 to 300 million per year. Polaris has invested in 28 companies and has sold 14. € 653 million in two investment funds, the foundation of the company’s business.
