HTC is said to develop operating systems for China - Mobile

According to the Wall Street Journal, the project will be led by HTC Chairman Cher Wang. China is now the world’s largest mobile market, and it is dominated by Android and small, domestic handset manufacturers. A targeted campaign against China feels like a logical bet.

Android is so dominant is not fully appreciated by the Chinese authorities who want to have control over the flow of information and interfere in that an American company has so much influence. Meanwhile, the other network services that are popular in China, for example, integrate Baidu search on a phone is more logical for Chinese users than Google.

It is not known if the “mobile software system,” as the Wall Street Journal puts it, should be based on Android or newly built from scratch. The former seems more logical, as it would require shorter development time and simplify the design of phones specifically for the Chinese market, but in this case, HTC look after careful where they put their feet. When Acer last year trying to develop a Chinese system along with e-commerce company Alibaba, became the phone at the last moment stopped by Google threatened to cease cooperation with Acer.
