Everyone wants the latest Android 4.4 KitKat but sadly it’s not available for every handset yet. We’ve been hearing rumors and announcements of handsets receiving the update in early 2014 so Know Your Mobile asked Those manufacturers to comment.
Samsung
We started off by asking the big dog Samsung When Android 4.4 KitKat would be hitting its latest bunch of handsets. A spokesperson for Samsung said, “Samsung UK will announce rollout plans for Android 4.4 in due course.” Obviously That does not tell us much at the moment, but the comment hints That some big handsets will be receiving the latest Nestle-themed goodness very soon.
alreadycreated We’ve heard the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 would be getting KitKat in late January on French carrier SFR. That’s news Samsung probably did not want to leak out. SFR Stated the update would be available for the S4 before January is over and the Note 3 at the beginning of February.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Snapped Running Android 4.4: Update Imminent?
Samsung Galaxy S4 users’ rejoice: the wait for Android 4.4 KitKat could soon be over. Leaked images of a Galaxy S4 handset – model number: GT-I9505 – show the handset running Android KitKat, and the latest build of Google’s OS could be distributed over the air to handsets before the end of January.
Samsung doing now? confirmed When it will begin rolling out the update. We’ve asked a gazillion times and always get the same answer: “we’ll keep you posted.” Thankfully European Networks Are not quite as tight-lipped, with a couple of big players now confirming – off the record, of course – that Android 4.4 will hit the Galaxy S4 before the end of the month.
Whether or not the update will include Samsung’s redesigned Magazine UX remains to be seen. Chances are we’ll have to wait until the Galaxy S5 unveiling – Suspected to be happening in and around MWC 2014 – for our first glimpse of That running on a Samsung handset.
HTC
HTC’s flagship handset is still without the Android 4.4 KitKat, when will it arrive? All we know is from the end of January.
We revealed in a previous post That the KitKat update for HTC One will be rolled out from end of January 2014. A spokesperson for HTC said, “HTC will work with carriers to begin the roll-out of Android 4.4 with Sense 5.5 for the HTC One from end of January. The Google Play edition will start to receive the update EARLIER, starting from the end of November. “
For those using HTC devices (that is the HTC One, One Max And The One Mini), it’s thought an update to Android 4.4.2 is on its way between January and February. That’s According To Twitter user and developer LlabTooFeR, who seems to be in the know …
Users of the HTC One, Which is still running android 4.3 Jelly Bean will be especially pleased to hear the news. However Those with an HTC One X will miss out on the upgrade as Their devices are deemed too old by the Powers That Be.
LG
LG have Declined to comment on the progress of updating its handsets with Android 4.4. What do we know so far? Well … nothing. Absolutely nothing has been confirmed but we’ve seen rumors trickle through over the past few months. One included an LG rep saying the LG G2 will start receiving the over the air update toward the end of March.
But it’s unsure Whether the Canadian-based rep was just Referring to handsets in LG Canada. LG’s Optimus G overpriced Began receiving the Android 4.4 update KitKat in December … but only in Estonia, and only on one specific network.
Sony
Let’s start with the good news; These handsets will all get the Android 4.4 update: Xperia Z, ZL Xperia, Xperia Tablet Z, Z Ultra Xperia and Xperia Z1. The bad news is, we have no clue When. Sony has confirmed the launch of Android 4.4 will be “phased” Which will come down to where you live and Which network you’re with.
We pressed Sony for a comment on When The updates will be rolling out but sadly the company would not spill the beans.
